Dependence Day!

David Dendy, VP for Philanthropy

Today, July 4, 2013 the United States of America will celebrate 237 years of Independence.

Flags will fly…
Parades will dot the landscape of America…
Graves of the fallen will be washed, cleaned and decorated…
The roar of Fighter Jets flying overhead will boast the sound of Freedom…
The smell of burgers and dogs on the grill will waft through every neighborhood…

Today, July 4, 2013 the University of Dubuque is relatively quiet.

The Bell Tower will chime four times an hour…
The cranes on the construction site for the New Residence Hall will stand at attention…
The smell of newly moved dirt will waft through the campus from the upcoming indoor practice facility…
The new Heritage Center will echo and proclaim the Mission and Vision of UD…
The green grass will await the footsteps of the incoming class of 2017…
The Alumni and Friends of UD will stretch from sea to shining sea and all the way around the globe…

While the country celebrates Independence Day,
the University of Dubuque celebrates "Dependence Day.”

In fact we celebrate "Dependence Day” every day.

We depend on our Alumni and our Friends of the University for their generosity and commitment to provide resources for our scholarships, programming and capital needs.

We can do nothing without you!
So, let me have the privilege of saying a heartfelt,
"Thank you! We depend on you!”

This past fiscal year our Alumni and Friends gave:

To the Annual Fund - $825,731.64
To Restricted Projects - $15,268,381.10
To the Endowment Fund - $583,651.30

We celebrate this Dependence on you!
Have a marvelous day celebrating Independence Day and we here at UD will have a marvelous day celebrating each and every one of you!

Go Spartans!
We are UD!

Grace and peace,
David!
