Bradley Longfield
Dean and Professor of Church History

The campus is alive with students after Thanksgiving break and we find ourselves heading down the homestretch of the semester.

Even as students and faculty work to finish this semester well, we are making preparations for next semester and next school year.  In January, the distance and residential M.Div. and M.A.M.C. students join on campus for the January intensive. In engaging classes, joyful worship, and Christian fellowship, we will pursue our mission to form God’s people for servant leadership in ministry and mission.

For those currently engaged in ministry and mission, the new year will bring opportunities for growth through our Christian Leadership Plus Online Continuing Education Program and through the residential Doctor of Ministry Program.  On February 3, Dr. Lyle Vander Broek will begin a five-week continuing education course "Preaching from John: Lent and Easter, Year A,” and on March 10, Dr. Timothy Slemmons will begin a five-week continuing education course "Epic of Epics: The Bible in Rock Music.” To register, or for more information, call Ms. Lu LeConte at 563-589-3691.

The 2014 Doctor of Ministry Cohort, which meets on campus in May, will be led by Dr. Jerry Andrews, Senior Pastor, First Presbyterian Church of San Diego, CA and me.  The Doctor of Ministry at Dubuque emphasizes congregational renewal.  This particular cohort will address renewal by focusing on Scripture and prayer in community.  We will engage in close reading and prayerful study of Romans and the Psalms and join in vigorous communal reflection on what it means to be the church, the people of God.  Applications are now being received.  For more information visit http://udts.dbq.edu.

Prospective students are invited to campus March 12-14, to join our "Exploring a Call Conference.”  This allows individuals to experience first-hand our vibrant Christian community, excellent teaching, and beautiful campus. If you are considering theological education, or if you know of someone who should be considering theological education, please call Ms. Kimberly Burnett-Hackbarth, Director of Admissions, at 800-369-UDTS or email her at udtsadms@dbq.edu.

I thank you for your support of the seminary and pray God’s richest blessing on you for a joyous Advent and Christmas.
