Curtain Rises on Heritage Center

It was a black tie affair -- complete with tuxes, tails and evening gowns -- Saturday night as the University of Dubuque welcomed patrons to experience opening night at Heritage Center, the university's new fine and performing arts, worship and campus center.

About 800 people filled the 1,000-seat John and Alice Butler Hall to delight in the combined efforts of the Dubuque and the Columbus, Ohio, symphony orchestras.

UD's 161st Commencement

The University of Dubuque held its 161st Commencement for 450 undergraduate, graduate, and seminary students.

The University of Dubuque conferred degrees on 344 undergraduate and 85 graduate students during its 161st College Commencement Ceremony on Saturday, May 18. Dr. Barbara Reid, assistant professor of nursing and assistant department head delivered the commencement address, titled Now You're Ready.

The University's Seminary conferred degrees on 36 students - 31 residential and distance master of divinity, 2 master of missional Christianity, and 3 doctor of ministry - during the Seminary Commencement Ceremony on Saturday, May 18 at 9:30 a.m. in Heritage Center's John and Alice Butler Hall.

UD for Kids

UD for Kids is celebrating its 22nd year serving the gifted and talented tri-state area students! Coordinator Cheryl Werner and Assistant Rhonda Dyer are overseeing another record-setting year! Currently, 816 UD Kids are enrolled in classes during June 17-21, June 24-28, and July 8-12 sessions.
 
New courses for this summer feature the Lasansky Collection in the Heritage Center and drama classes on stage with Amy Ressler! Chef Andy is again cooking up a storm with courses called Sweet Thing, Cookie Crazy, and Build a Better Burger! Dr. Hoffman and a team of his UD students doing summer research projects will lead a class called Science Scholars! The latest aviation course at the airport is called Master of Aviation! This is just a sampling of the courses available at UD this summer.

April 18th saw the Goldthorp Science Center awash in a flurry of scholarly activity (even more so than usual), as the first annual APEX celebration for undergraduate scholarship was taking place. An amazing amount of hard work from students of all majors was on display and a jovial time was had by all. However on that day the brightest flash bulbs, the reddest carpets, the most A-list academic celebrity cameos, and the wittiest speeches took were saved for the announcement of the 2013 Chlapaty Fellowship recipients.
